Spotlight Pan of Tytoona Cave

Western Region

The 2006 NSS Western Regional Meeting will be hosted by the San Diego Grotto over Labor Day weekend, September 2-4, 2006 at the Dos Picos County park in Ramona, California. Download the Camp Brochure (PDF) or Registration Form (PDF). A map and satellite photo of the park can be found here

Facility

The Western Regional is being held at Dos Picos State Park which is between Poway and Ramona, California. This facility is centrally located to the attractions of San Diego as well as the local mountains and desert. It is off of highway 67 on the way to Julian and the Anza Borrego desert. It is close to one of the county’s best climbing and bouldering areas, Mount Woodson, as well as shopping, restaurants and fast food. We have reserved the entire Pavilion area which has a large central pavilion, barbeques, fire pits and picnic tables. Dogs are welcome!
Downtown Ramona is less than 10 minutes to the east, with easy access to shopping and restaurants.

Agenda

We have some interesting presentations planned for attendees, topped off by a Pig roast and an auction of cave gear and memorabilia to benefit the Western Region. View the current agenda.

Camping

The group site that has been reserved for the Western Regional consists of 13 large camp sites arranged around a central meeting building. Each camp site can accommodate up to 8 people and the sites will be shared. Each site has a fire pit, barbeque, running water and AC power that you will need for recharging your caving lights for the “big ones”! Fire wood will be provided. Showers are nearby. Because of limited parking most cars will need to be left in the nearby “day” lot after unloading.

Hotels

There are several hotels nearby in the towns of Ramona and Poway. Click here for a map and list.

Extras

A 50th anniversary commemorative T-shirt will be available for $14. You can also purchase Western Regional hats ($15) and mugs ($6.50) when you register and pick them up at the Regional. The hats are ball cap style and come in many colors (black, maroon, charcoal gray, hunter green, khaki, and navy). The hats and mugs will have the Western Regional logo on them and will make a wonderful reminder of the 50th year celebration of the Western Region. We can’t guarantee we will have extras at the Regional, so please buy these when you register.

Please remember the fund raising auction.
